Tacoma Relay for Life 2014

June 20, 2014

O n Friday, June 13, 2014, PABCO Roofing Products helped ring in the 30th Tacoma Relay for Life, an important fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

The event was held at Mt. Tahoma High School where roughly 3,000 people participated. The 2014 Relay for Life theme was “A Cure Around the World.” It reminds us that the battle to defeat cancer is truly an international endeavor. The American Cancer Society reports that there are 6,000 relay events held across 20 countries worldwide.

Relay for Life originated in Tacoma, Washington in 1985. Local surgeon, Dr. Gordon Klatt, gathered a group of volunteers at the University of Puget Sound track for a 24-hour event that raised $27,000 for cancer research. Flash forward 30 years and PABCO Roofing was one of 136 teams that participated in the Tacoma Relay for Life that raised over $530,000 collectively for the event. We are inspired to witness how much this event has grown and flourished over the years. PABCO Roofing is committed to continue our support of Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society in their quest to find a cure for cancer.
