'Tis the Season: PABCO Roofing Helping Families in Need
I
f you have been following our Facebook page for the last few months, you might have heard the term, “Adopt-A-Family,” mentioned several times. Since we are nearing the end of the year, we would like to share more about the program PABCO® Roofing Products has been dedicated to supporting.
Adopt-A-Family is a program designed to assist families in need during the holiday season. Essentially, local families are paired with donors who receive a narrative of the family’s background and their Christmas wish list. It gives donors the opportunity to bring a little joy into homes during the holidays by providing gifts, toys, and clothing to their sponsored family.
Pacific Coast Building Products and all of its subsidiaries have participated in the Adopt-A-Family program for the last 20 years. Each company strategizes a number of events to raise money for their Adopt-A-Family funding goal. As December comes to a close, the funds are used to buy needed items from their sponsored families’ wish list. This year’s fundraisers at PABCO Roofing Products consisted of our annual bake sale, chili cook-off, pancake breakfast, and several raffles.
With the help of many individuals over the last year, we are humbled to share that we have surpassed our 2014 fundraising goal and we were able to assist several families this holiday season. On December 19th, we delivered the wrapped presents to Tacoma’s Catholic Community Services, an organization who helps facilitate the nationwide Adopt-A-Family program. We also collected unwrapped toys during our December Toy Drive and donated those gifts to Catholic Community Services to give to families in need outside of the Adopt-A-Family program.
The Program Manager of Volunteer Services at Catholic Community Services SW, Penny Grellier, has been actively involved with the Adopt-A-Family program for the 14 years she’s worked at CCS. Penny states that the most meaningful part to her job is being able to connect donors with the reality of need in Pierce County: “It helps educates others in the variety of need within our community. There is also a flexible definition of family; grandparents raising grandchildren, aunts raising their niece and nephews, and so on.” Penny currently heads up the Adopt-A-Family program at Catholic Community Services SW and was happy to share that their program helped 618 individuals this Christmas. Overall, that is 161 local families that received gifts and clothing from donors within the Tacoma community.

We owe the success of our Adopt-A-Family program to our employees, friends, families, vendors, and customers who have graciously donated to our fundraisers each year. Without your support, we would not be able to help as many families as we can. Lastly, a big thank you to our Adopt-A-Family planning committee for all of the time and effort they have dedicated to each fundraiser. We wish the PABCO® family a wonderful holiday season!
